Just checking up to see if anyone is actively flying any where now. I have been going to the sod farm the past few weeks and haven't seen any of the other guys that usually fly at Cecil, yet there is no one posting on the web page. A lot of the fellows that have always flown at the sod farm are still doing so, last Sunday there was 8 flyers counting Bart and me, later EFP came and reported no one was at the Cecil field and the grass was high, but still could fly but got lonesome all by himself so came hunting some one to talk to.

Where do we stand on the power line at Blackburn Park? Any progress meeting with Parks and Recreation so that another appeal can be made to Colquit EMC about reducing the price of moving that power line?
I hope this will be persued and not let our club die for lack of interest.
I am attaching pictures of Thunder Tiger Stik 40 I am rebuilding.

I still have the 2 Tower Hobbiesa radios for free if interested let me know

Sorry I haven't posted in a while. Been at the Academy for the last 6 weeks. But, I'm back at Cecil on Sundays, flying my Four Star and as soon as my receiver gets back from Spektrum, the Extra will be back in the air. Was there with 2 other folks around mid afternoon last Sunday. A little windy but got 2 real good flights in. I have yet to go to the sod farm. Maybe one of these days I'll try to find it but I really like the Cecil field. I am too seeing less and less people flying at Cecil and wondered the same thing myself. I think the uncertainty of the field is driving people away so we need to come up with a designated field real soon. Just my 2 cents.

next meeting needs to be at blackburn park so everyone can see the facility floyd and i are thru flying at cecil it is evident that the cecil field owner is trying to run us out by plowing all around the field. and the ends of the runway. for now we are flying at the sod farm on sundays around 1 or 2 oclock in the afternoon, once the power line is moved at blackburn everyone will love it! I think we just need to take up donations to finish paying for the removal of the powerline any sugg....???

I absolutely agree we should have a meeting at Blackburn. Hopefully we can as many as possible show. I love the Cecil field and hate to see it go, but if it isn't mowed Sunday, I'll try to find the sod farm. Where is it at?

Thanks, I actually found it on Google maps. Pretty easy to get to. I may have to work this weekend, but I'll try to make it out to Cecil 1st. If no-one is there, I'll go to the sod farm, I guess. I'm going to try to go fly'n on Wed (maybe at Blackburn) as I have off but I hear some bad weather is coming our way.

If people want to abandon Cecil, then I think we should get our stuff off of the field. However,
I have flown a lot at Cecil lately, and frankly, I think the plowing has improved the field. I lost a hatch cover a week ago, and found it within minutes. If the owner really wanted us off the field, he could have simply plowed across the middle of the runway (a la Meigs field in Chicago), or changed the locks at the gate (the wire has been up the last few times). I think if we mowed the field one last time, we probably could keep it through the winter.

I flew at the sod farm a week ago for the first time in years. The fuselage of my ill-fated PC-9 broke in half after I hit some sprinkler apparatus in the field when landing, and it snagged and snapped off the entire back of the plane. This same plane landed at least a dozen times at Cecil that same weekend without any problems. The plane has since been glued back together and flown. After three rebuilds, there are fewer and fewer original parts on the plane.

My biggest concern about Blackburn is the sun. Everytime I have been there I have found myself staring into the sun. I just put another call into Eric Hahn. I left a message that we were serious about moving the powerline and would like to meet with him and start the paperwork. I have photos showing the proposed new route of the power line, plus the tree Bart would like to cut down.

I have been seriously thinking about thinning out some of my fleet. I have the Hobbico version of the sturdy bird and a slightly modified Great Planes Rapture that I am thinking of donating to the club to sell at Perry, but would probably be willing to give to any club member for free. They were both flown with electric motors, powered by nimh batteries, but could be easily converted back to .40 glow power with only a little work. I will bring them to the next meeting.

I forgot, I also have a kit-built Spirit and a Spirit Elite I would be willing to give away. The first would come with a brushed motor. I learned to fly on the first plane, and flew it at Newbern Middle school for years. Iit should still fly well. The second Spirit has a fiberglass fuselage, but is so heavy; it would only be good for sloping.

Anyone flying down at Blackburn, Cecil, or the sod farm during the week next week? I've got the week off and plan on flying a little bit. Might try to find Blackburn and take some pics and try flying down there, too.

My plan is to fly at Cecil Sunday.....does anyone know if it has been mowed? I agree with Ed about the possibility o flying thru the winter.....doubt he will be planting anytime soon.

I hope we can still use it. I'll try to make it Sunday at Cecil in the afternoon if I don't have to work.

I flew at the sod farm today. Shannon and I were there, along with Ed Hewitt, Jay and a few others. I still prefer Cecil since the ditch is a pain.

Eric Hahn left me a voice mail last Friday. Shannon asked that I follow up. I will post any update.

I didn't make it out today, I was at work on and off. But I did get home and work on my Extra a little bit. She'll be ready to fly during the week. Might go to Cecil this week. Anyone else going to be there? Thanks for heading up with Eric Hahn. I'm going to go down there and try my hand at flying there maybe a little bit tomorrow.
